Should you be concerned about luxury vinyl flooring expanding?

You'll be fine as long as you acclimate the luxury vinyl plank or tile flooring. Be mindful, however, that most warranties today have strict guidelines regarding installation. When not followed, protections might be lost.

This vinyl is waterproof, so why is acclimation needed?

The vinyl has microscopic holes. When air circulates, it can be humid or dry, causing expansion or contraction.

Temperatures often vary from the warehouse to your home. This will cause the luxury vinyl tile or plank to try to adjust.

Especially when the floors float

One of the great benefits of this vinyl is that it is installed via the fast and easy floating floor. When floors float, they hover over the subfloor without adhesives or nails.

When appropriately installed, a floating floor is stable. However, there is always the possibility of movement causing it to be off-balance.

Even if the luxury vinyl plank is glued, the pieces can crowd each other and cup or crown. So we always install to prevent potential problems.

What is acclimation?

This is a simple but necessary pre-installation process. The pieces are laid out or left in opened boxes for 48 hours in a climate-controlled room in which it's to be installed. There must be no excessive air conditioning or heat.

This allows the LVP or LVT to adjust to new temperature levels. So it's worth your while to deliver the product two or three days early.
